BALCONY LIVING
My home is my sanctuary. All 800 square feet of it. It's your average NYC apartment: high rent, tiny space, noisy tenant upstairs, people park in your spot all the time. Nothing out of the ordinary city living.
It can be quite charming, I know. But this is home and that's New York. You know space is at a premium here. So make do with what you have. My yard, also known as, the balcony, is my little outside nook for which I'm super grateful for. It's my peaceful spot. Something that's hard to find at times. So I retreat here.
For my birthday I asked my fiancee and family to contribute to it's makeover. It just wasn't inviting enough. It wasn't comfy enough. It needed an upgrade and boy did everyone come through.
I wish I had a before picture but it's buried in Lord knows what folder, in what cloud. But here is the after. The happily ever after....
This is my hangout - my NYC yard. Also my storage unit! The two benches alongside the right are from Amazon. So handy. These two benches are my storage units. The custom two-seater in the back is a salvaged wooden shipping container that we threw a piece of plywood on top of, giving us more storage space. To make it comfy and cozy we added cushions from Ikea. Another great buy from Ikea are the artificial potted plants you see here below. I kept forgetting to water my real plants so these are an excellent alternative.
My lovely and super talented mother was the mastermind and maker of these amazing accent pillows though. They're brilliant! Each pillow ties into each other. It brought life to the whole space. She sells these. Made by hand in America baby. Inbox me for details.
