Being a plus-sized woman can come with its challenges. With the extra weight I find I tend to sweat more. I'm out of breathe faster. Get tired faster. I have arthritis in my knees which later turned into overall psoriatic arthritis. So my skin gets patchy and hurts. That’s just a few things going on with me. I’m sure some of you out there have some to add to the list.
During the summer more issues get added onto that list. The heat just brings out the worst in me, in my hair and my body. My body’s chemistry can be embarrassing. So embarrassing that I wasn’t exactly comfortable asking for advice on how to deal with those issues let alone sharing them with the whole world.
Over the years though, through trial and error, I’ve picked up a thing or two on how to cope during the summer so I can better enjoy it. So here's a list of my embarrassing stuff that I have to deal with during the summer. You are not alone ladies. Hope these tips come in handy. Do feel free to leave a comment if you've got some good stuff to share.
SOLUTION: MONISTAT'S SOOTHING CARE CHAFING RELIEF POWDER-GEL
My inner thighs rub together so bad I could start my own fire. This lady heard me complaining about it and suggested Monistat’s Anti-Chafing Gel, which she conveniently had on her. She let me try it and it was instant relief. My thighs were so silky smooth and I haven’t chaffed since. I can wear dresses again without shorts underneath.

PROBLEM: SMELLY BELLY
During the summer, under your belly can get funky. Not from poor hygiene but because it's tucked away with no air for it to breathe. I never thought to use deodorant because I thought it was only for underarms. But if it blocks odor and can minimize perspiration, that’s what I need. If pits can stink then why not other parts of my body where the skin is folded like under the belly, or under the breast? It works! I use the white stick. Gel deodorants just makes it feel moist. Completely the opposite of what we're trying to accomplish here.
PROBLEM: STINKY FEET
SOLUTION: BAKING SODA
I thought it was only good for the fridge. But I keep seeing it used for so much more! I decided to give it a shot. I put it on my feet and a little in my shoes. Shake out the excess. Voila! I find better than other foot powders. I hate socks and definitely don't wear any during the summer as it makes me sweat more. My feet still sweat BUT no smell. Thus avoiding the embarrassing part. P.S.: rubbing lemon on your feet helps eliminate odors as well..
PROBLEM: TOO HOT
SOLUTION: THERE ARE MANY
First and foremost, DRINK WATER. Staying hydrated is super important. I ended up in the hospital once from dehydration.
Stay Cool.Stay in the shade. Even better get to a place that has air conditioning. Don't know of any? NYC has cooling centers designated throughout the boroughs.

Wear loose clothing. Light colors and fabrics - like cotton. They breathe better. Keeping you cooler in the process.
When I'm really overheating, because that does happen to me, I run my wrists under cold water and stick an ice pack on my shoulders, my neck, even my back. It quickly cools me down which in turn calms me down.
PROBLEM: SWEAT MARKS
This last one I have yet to find a solution. Not sure there is one. If I work up a sweat and sit down somewhere, when I get up there's a sweat mark. So gross and embarrassing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
